Upsilon Kappa Kappa Chapter History
Upsilon Kappa Kappa Chapter
Lafayette, Indiana
On November 27, 1997, at an annual Thanksgiving celebration hosted by Brother Leroy Keyes,
a group of Omega Men thoroughly immersed in the true Omega Spirit began discussions to
create a Lafayette, Indiana Graduate Chapter.
With the support of District Representative Larry “Hondo” Boyd and the approval of the
Grand Counsel, Upsilon Kappa Kappa (ΥΚΚ) was chartered on July 11, 1998, at the 70th
Grand Conclave held in New Orleans, Louisiana, making it the 899th chapter of Omega
Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated.
Chapter Purpose
The purpose of the chapter, in keeping with that of the Fraternity, is to bring about a
union of men of similar high ideals of scholarship and manhood in order to:
- Stimulate the attainment of ideals and ambitions of its members;
- Disseminate and inculcate those ideals among those with whom its members come in contact;
- Cooperate with educational institutions in the Lafayette community in fostering these ideals;
- Occupy a progressive, helpful, and constructive place in the civic and political life of the community and the nation;
- Prepare its members for greater usefulness in the cause of humanity, freedom, and dignity of the individual;
- Aid down-trodden humanity in its effort to achieve higher social, economic, and intellectual status;
- Engage in all other activities consistent with and under the direction of the Constitution and By-laws of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

Continuing the Legacy
Today, the chapter continues to sponsor and support Nationally Mandated Programs in
addition to its local community service initiatives. The Brothers of Upsilon Kappa Kappa
remain steadfast in their efforts to uphold the true values of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
Though small in number, the chapter remains committed to its motto:
“Friendship is Essential to the Soul.”
